Kenya’s energy landscape is undergoing a structural shift, with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) firmly established as the nation's fastest-growing fuel segment.

According to the Petroleum Institute of East Africa (PIEA), LPG consumption surged by 14.72% in 2025, reaching a record 475,943 metric tonnes. This growth mirrors a steady upward trend since 2019, contrasting sharply with the decline of kerosene.

While kerosene consumption stood near 200,000 metric tonnes in 2019, it has fallen to a fraction of that by 2025. This transition highlights a significant move toward cleaner cooking energy among Kenyan households.
