Based on data from the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), a new analysis reveals that Nairobi County remains the dominant consumer of electricity in Kenya.
During the period from July to December 2025, Nairobi consumed 2,627.44 Gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy, significantly surpassing all other regions. This consumption level is more than double that of the next highest region, the Coast, which recorded 977.90 GWh.
Central Rift followed with 553.74 GWh. The data, published by "The Star Digital," highlights the stark concentration of energy demand within the capital city.
In contrast, the South Nyanza region recorded the lowest consumption at 123.38 GWh. This wide disparity underscores the unique challenges of regional energy infrastructure and economic development within Kenya.
