President William Ruto is commencing a four-day tour of the Gusii region on Sunday as he seeks support for his 2027 re-election.

The President is expected to use the tour to visit all but two of the 13 constituencies in Nyamira and Kisii counties to launch new projects, inspect ongoing ones and also address political rallies.

Ruto is expected to arrive at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii county where he is expected to hand over the facility to KDF for the construction of a Sh900 million modern stadium and also issue a bus to Shabana FC.

The region appears to be tilting towards would-be Ruto rival in next year’s polls Fred Mataing’i who is stamping his authority as he hopes to secure a joint opposition ticket to unseat Ruto.

He will also inspect the ongoing construction of the Cancer Centre, the Suneka Airstrip in Bonchari, Kiabonyoru University in North Mugirango and launch road projects across the region.

President Ruto will host community leaders at the Kisii State Lodge on Sunday night.

Ruto will be in Ikonge, Nyamira on Monday to launch the construction of a modern market, where he is expected to handle a backlash following complaints of the region being left out of the Narok-Kisumu SGR phase.

Although Nyamira county was among the counties that include Narok, Bomet, Kericho and Kisumu that were expected to have passenger stations, a plan launched by the President two weeks ago showed that the SGR route will not enter Ikonge, in Nyamira.

“We are here to ensure a smooth tour by the President. I am urging you to support him and prioritise development. The President will launch several projects and inspect others that are ongoing,” Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba said on Friday in Nyamira ahead of the presidential visit.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati, who will be hosting Ruto, said the tour will be used to press for more development from the national government.

“As the Gusii community, we must speak with one voice and work with the government to secure our fair share of development,” Arati said.
