President William Ruto has congratulated the Kenya Women’s National Team, Harambee Starlets, following their impressive 2-0 victory over India that secured a place in the final of the FIFA Women's Series.

In a message of praise and encouragement, the President lauded the team’s performance, saying their achievement had inspired the nation and showcased Kenya’s growing strength in women’s football.

“Congratulations Harambee Starlets on your remarkable victory against India, securing a place in the final of the FIFA Women’s Series. You have made the nation proud,” Ruto said.

“As you head to the final, know that the entire nation stands firmly behind you, united in support and confident in your ability to win the tournament,” he added.

The Starlets delivered a commanding performance in the semi-final clash played in Nairobi on April 11, 2026, with goals from Martha Amunyolet and Terry Engesha sealing the victory in what was the first-ever meeting between Kenya and India in women’s football.

Kenya wasted no time asserting dominance, taking the lead as early as the second minute.

A well-delivered cross from Fasila Adhiambo was parried by India goalkeeper Shreya Hooda, only for Amunyolet to react swiftly and fire the rebound into the net, handing the hosts an early advantage.

From then on, Harambee Starlets dictated the tempo, pressing high and maintaining control of the game. Their defensive discipline ensured that India struggled to create meaningful chances, while Kenya continued to threaten going forward.

After the break, the Kenyan side returned with renewed intensity, making tactical substitutions that injected fresh energy into the squad. Their persistence paid off in the 57th minute when a perfectly timed through ball split the Indian defence, allowing Engesha to race forward before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner to double the lead.

India attempted to mount a comeback with several substitutions, but Kenya remained composed and in control, ultimately sealing a crucial win that propelled them into the final.

The victory has sparked excitement across the country, with leaders and fans alike rallying behind the team as they prepare for a tough final showdown against Australia. The Australians booked their spot in the final after a dominant 5-0 win over Malawi in the other semi-final.

All eyes are now on Wednesday’s final, where Harambee Starlets will be aiming to cap off their impressive run with a historic triumph. Meanwhile, India will face Malawi in the third-place playoff.
