The Eldoret City Board is now under the leadership of two prominent women, following the appointment of Alice Kositany as chairperson.

She takes over from Julius Kitur, who served as chairman of the Eldoret Municipal Board for a decade before the town was elevated to city status two years ago.

The new board was inaugurated by Uasin Gishu County after vetting and approval by the county assembly. Members elected Kositany as chairperson during their first official meeting.

“I welcome this honour and pledge to serve the residents of Eldoret with commitment and dedication,” she said.

Board members include Edward Sawe, Sammy Bor, David Maiz, Ruth Limo, Hilda Kibet, Titus Yego, David Nyolmo, Edith Koske and Daniel Kamau.

Governor Jonathan Bii had earlier appointed Elzeba Busienei as the board’s secretary.

Residents, led by community advocate Benjamin Leting, welcomed the new team, citing improved engagement with stakeholders aimed at enhancing services.

The board has begun induction sessions, with Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea describing the process as a key step in strengthening governance.

He said the board will play a critical role in providing strategic direction, promoting accountability and ensuring efficient service delivery as Eldoret continues its transition to city status.

Governor Bii has tasked the board with restoring cleanliness, addressing operational challenges and advancing his vision of transforming Eldoret into an investment hub.

Busienei said she is ready to work with residents and stakeholders to upgrade the city and improve services.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Bii also signalled his intention to seek a second term, warning county staff against engaging in political activities that could undermine his administration.

“The county is progressing, and my achievements are visible. Those opposing me should focus their efforts elsewhere rather than engaging in an impossible campaign,” he said.

The new board now faces the challenge of consolidating city operations while supporting broader governance and development goals as Eldoret continues its growth trajectory.
