Kenya has solidified its position as a regional leader in sustainable power, with renewable energy sources accounting for a dominant 78.79% of the total electricity supplied to the national grid between July and December 2025.

This significant reliance on clean energy underscores the country’s aggressive shift away from fossil fuels, as thermal power contributed only 9.11% to the energy mix during the same period.

To meet national demand, Kenya also integrated electricity imports, which represented 12.10% of the total supply.

At the heart of this green revolution is geothermal power, which remains the backbone of the nation's energy infrastructure.

It contributed a substantial 40.06% of the total generation, providing a reliable, baseload power source that anchors the grid. This heavy investment in geothermal and other renewables reflects a strategic move to ensure long-term energy security while meeting climate goals.

By leveraging its unique geological advantages, Kenya is successfully transitioning to a modern, low-carbon economy where the majority of every kilowatt consumed is harvested from the earth, wind, and sun.
