A five-year-old boy has died after falling from the fourth floor of an apartment in Nairobi’s Kasarani area, in a heartbreaking incident that has renewed concerns over residential safety.

Police said the tragedy occurred on the evening of April 7, 2026, as the child played with friends at the family’s home.

The minor reportedly fell from the fourth floor and was rushed to Life Bridge Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officers who visited the scene observed blood stains on the ground floor. At the family’s apartment on the fourth floor, a section of the metal grill was found missing, believed to be the point from which the child fell.

Preliminary observations indicated the boy sustained severe head injuries.

The scene was processed and the body moved to Kenyatta University Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

The incident left the family devastated.

Police say such cases have been on the rise, with many victims falling from balconies, prompting calls for developers to install safer grills in residential buildings.

A similar incident was reported over the weekend in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area, with investigations ongoing.

Elsewhere, police in Kajiado are probing the death of a man whose body was discovered in his house in the township area.

The deceased, identified as Joseph Kelian, was found lying on his bed long after his death. The body was moved to a mortuary pending further procedures.

In Kisumu County, police in Ragumo are also investigating the discovery of a decomposed body of a man on the banks of River Nyamria.

Authorities believe the body may have been swept to the area by raging waters following heavy rains. It has since been moved to a mortuary for identification and post-mortem examination.

Police have warned of rising drowning incidents linked to ongoing rains, revealing that at least 115 people have died due to flooding in recent months, while dozens more have been displaced.

More rainfall is expected in the coming days, raising fears the situation could worsen.
