Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii is pushing for the completion of two value addition factories and several other key development projects across the county.
The governor, who is seeking a second term in next year’s elections, has prioritised finishing these projects to strengthen his reelection bid.
Among the flagship projects nearing completion are the coffee processing plant in Turbo and the potato processing plant in Ainabkoi, which are expected to increase earnings for local farmers.
Other projects slated for expedited completion include the County Industrial Park in Moiben, Kesses Subcounty Hospital and the multipurpose hall in Racecourse ward.
“Completion of these projects will mark a significant milestone in the county's development and efforts to enhance service delivery to the people of Uasin Gishu,” Bii said after inspecting several ongoing projects.
During a meeting with county officials and the public works team, Roads, Transport and Public Works county chief officer Geoffrey Tanui emphasised the need for teamwork to improve supervision and ensure timely completion of all projects.
“Let us ensure we deliver and achieve our set targets and goals, especially on flagship projects,” he said.
Public works director Benjamin Kirongo stressed the importance of weekly progress reports and regular monitoring.
Present at the meeting were acting deputy director of public works engineer Peter Too, assistant directors Fredrick Serem (fire and disaster management), Abraham Kurgat (administration and planning), and John Mwenda (public works).
Governor Bii tasked officers to ensure smooth completion of all projects well ahead of the 2026 election campaigns.
At a recent forum in Eldoret, Bii told political rivals not to waste resources attempting to unseat him in next year’s polls, insisting that his record of performance would secure his re-election.
“They should use their money wisely instead of engaging in an impossible mission to campaign against me. As of now, this county is locked until I complete my two terms in office,” Bii said.
The governor also warned some members of his staff he described as part of a “one-term” brigade, who he claimed were working against him within the county administration.
