The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its application portal for the 2026 university and TVET intake, inviting students to apply for degree programmes as well as Level 4, 5 and 6 technical and vocational education and training courses.

The online application window opened on April 7, 2026, and will run until May 6, 2026.

The exercise targets candidates from the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort, alongside Form Four leavers from previous years.

Candidates from the 2025 KCSE class are eligible to apply for both degree and TVET programmes. All applications must be submitted online through the KUCCPS student portal.

The minimum requirement for degree programmes remains a mean grade of C+ (plus). Meanwhile, individuals who attained any KCSE grade from A to E between 2000 and 2025 are eligible to apply for TVET programmes.

Successful applicants for degree courses are expected to join universities from September, while those admitted to TVET institutions will report from May, as TVET placement is conducted on a rolling basis.

On Tuesday, the KUCCPS team led by the board chairperson Cyrus Gituai and the CEO Agnes Wahome apprised Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on the preparations for this cycle’s placement.

KUCCPS said it received results for 980,444 candidates who sat the 2025 KCSE examination, 268,700 of whom attained a mean grade of C+ and above, qualifying for placement in degree programmes across 43 public and 31 private universities.

The remaining 711,744 candidates, scored between C plain and E and qualify for placement in public colleges and other TVET institutions.

A total of 251 public TVET colleges, including 33 university-affiliated TVET institutes, are available for placement this year.

Candidates who sat KCSE between 2000 and 2025 and attained a mean grade of C+ and above are also eligible to apply for degree programmes at the Open University of Kenya.

As stipulated in the Universities Act 2012, placement will be conducted on merit, taking into account applicants’ course preferences, KCSE performance, and the available capacities in institutions.

Ahead of the application cycle, KUCCPS required universities and colleges to submit their programmes and capacities for the 2026–27 placement period, ensuring approval by the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).

CUE approved a total capacity of 322,396 slots for degree programmes in universities, while middle-level colleges have a combined capacity of 1,132,531 for diplomas, certificates, artisan, and other TVET courses.

Secondary Teacher Training Colleges have a total capacity of 2,480.

During the application period, KUCCPS officers will be deployed to universities and TVET institutions across all counties to assist applicants.

Applicants can also access support services at Huduma centres nationwide. On April 1, KUCCPS concluded training for Huduma Kenya Universal Service Agents drawn from 59 centres across the country to support students and parents seeking placement services.

Last month, KUCCPS finalised the placement of students to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) for the March 2026 intake, Kenya School of Law (Paralegal studies) for the May intake, and Utalii College for the October intake.

Form Four leavers from the 2025 KCSE cohort who wish to join KMTC will have another opportunity to apply for the September 2026 intake after the conclusion of university placements.

Candidates who repeated specific subjects to meet KMTC entry requirements will also be eligible to apply.
