The Vurugu Fight Night was designed to be a milestone for Kenyan boxing. However, the event has quickly turned into a war of words between the organisers and local officials.

Promoter Oga Obinna has issued a fiery response to claims that the high-stakes match was scripted.

The controversy began shortly after the bout at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on 5 April 2026. Majembe defeated Mbavu Destroyer via a technical knockout (TKO). The victory earned Majembe a massive prize package worth over Sh 2.5 million, including Sh 1 million in cash and a Toyota Noah.

Claims of a Fixed Fight

Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria was quick to challenge the legitimacy of the result. In a detailed Facebook post, he alleged the entire match was a "scheme to con innocent Kenyans."

Mosiria claimed the fight was scripted to favour Majembe and specifically named Obinna as the person behind the "script."

Mosiria further alleged that he had predicted the outcome an hour before the first bell. He claimed he chose not to attend the arena because he already knew what would unfold.

The official described the event as "mchezo wa Taon," suggesting it was a street-style trick rather than a professional contest.

Obinna’s Sharp Response

Oga Obinna did not take the accusations lightly. In a video released shortly after the match, the promoter directly addressed the official. He dismissed the claims and accused Mosiria of seeking attention through the success of the event.

"Sometimes before you blubber, can you stop and think. It’s not illegal to think, and tell the people the truth that you begged me for a ticket and I decline because I know you are a time waster and you're a clout chaser,” Obinna hit back.

He stated that the tournament was a positive contribution to the youth and the country. The promoter suggested that Mosiria was merely an embittered observer who watched the fight online like everyone else.

He even threatened to look for Mosiria and beat him for what he feels he’s trying to discredit the good work he has done in promoting the boxing bout.

“Stop just being a hater, I will look for and and beat you, bro, and I won’t take this lightly. Don’t bring me your BS, I will beat you,” Obinna threatened.

Training and Reputation Disputes

The fallout also includes claims regarding the preparation of the fighters. Mosiria asserted that he had personally invested in Mbavu Destroyer’s training.

He claimed to have secured two professional trainers—one local and one based in Dubai—and even paid for accommodation near the training centre.

However, Mosiria says he was eventually pushed out of the inner circle. He alleged that "coordinated propaganda" was used to damage his reputation. This reportedly included false claims that he had asked for a Sh 200,000 cut of Mbavu’s potential winnings.

A Divided Sporting Community

The tension between the two figures has highlighted a divide in the perception of Kenyan boxing. While Obinna maintains the event was a success for the society, Mosiria is calling for a major overhaul.

He argues that future matches must involve professional boxers and be conducted with total transparency to remain credible.
