Mbavu Destroyer’s First Public Appearance on Wheelchair After Defeat by Majembe

Boxer Mbavu Destroyer has made his first public appearance since his high-profile loss at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

In a 22-second video shared online, the fighter is seen in a frail state. He is currently receiving medical attention following his match against Majembe.

The footage shows Mbavu seated in a blue wheelchair. He is being pushed through a hospital corridor by his manager, wearing a brown suit. The boxer appears physically weakened and dazed in the recording.

A Difficult Night at Kasarani

The Vurugu Fight Night took place on 5 April 2026. It was one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year. However, for Mbavu Destroyer, the night ended in a knockout or technical knockout loss.

During the short video, Mbavu is partially covered by a white sheet. Despite his weakened state, he attempts to gesture toward the camera. His movements appear sluggish as he passes clinical white-tiled walls and medical posters.

Controversy Over "Low Blows"

Following the bout, Mbavu Destroyer took to social media to express his frustration. He suggests that the fight did not follow standard boxing rules. He specifically mentioned that the sport has changed into something unrecognisable.

Early, actress Diana Luvand had questioned why a fighter would be hit "in the balls."

Mbavu’s own statement echoed this sentiment. He claimed that the match involved "njwang’a," a term suggesting illegal or low blows.

Mbavu wrote that he felt the tactics used against him were unfair. He stated that if this is how the sport is played, he might have to use similar tactics himself. He repeatedly emphasised his belief that the conduct during the match was not true boxing.

"Siku hizi Boxing imekua kupigana njwang’a… aina noma. Mgenisho Sii boxing pia mimi nivuke na balls. This is not boxing,” Mbavu Destroyer decried.

While Mbavu recovers, his opponentMajembe has secured a significant prize package. The victory at Vurugu Fight Night came with life-changing rewards. Majembe’s total winnings are estimated to be worth over Sh2.5 million.
