The Vurugu Fight Night was marketed as a premier showcase of Kenyan boxing talent. However, the event has now been hit by serious allegations of match-fixing.

Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria has publicly claimed the bout was a sham. He suggests the entire event was choreographed for a specific outcome.

A Decisive Victory at Kasarani

The fight took place on April 5, 2026, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena. In the ring, Majembe defeated Mbavu Destroyer in a high-octane encounter. The victory was secured via a technical knockout.

Claims of a Scripted Event

Despite the celebration, Geoffrey Mosiria took to Facebook to voice his frustrations. He described the match as a "scheme to con innocent Kenyans". Mosiria claimed that the entire boxing match was scripted. He specifically named an individual called Obina as the person behind the script.

"The entire boxing match was scripted by Obinna... it was a mchezo wa Taon,” Mosiria wrote.

Mosiria believes the outcome was decided long before the fighters entered the ring. He stated that he chose not to attend the event because he knew what would happen.

“The entire thing witnessed today is a scheme to con innocent Kenyans who have been waiting to watch real boxing for a long time, only to end up watching a scripted event. That is why I chose not to attend.”

According to the official, he even posted a cryptic message on social media an hour before the fight. He claims this post accurately predicted the result that later unfolded.

Training and Sabotage Allegations

The official’s post also detailed personal efforts to support Mbavu Destroyer. Mosiria claims he had secured two professional boxing trainers for the fighter. One trainer was a local expert, while the other was based in Dubai.

Mosiria asserts that he personally paid for Mbavu’s training sessions. He also offered to provide accommodation near the training centre to ensure the fighter was prepared. However, Mosiria says he was later pushed out of the arrangement.

He claims that coordinated propaganda was used to damage his reputation. This allegedly included false reports that he had asked for Sh 200,000 of Mbavu’s winnings. Mosiria denies this and suggests these claims were a tactic to keep him away from the event.

"The beneficiary of the entire script is Obinna. Now wait for him and Mbavu Destroyer to ask for a rematch. This was mchezo wa Taon. My conscience does not allow me to mislead Kenyans who were eagerly waiting to watch a real match."

Looking for Transparency

The allegations have raised many questions about the integrity of the sport. Mosiria mentioned that there are various opinions circulating regarding the influence of betting interests. He noted that these claims remain unverified but are a cause for concern.

The official is now calling for a major shift in how such events are organised. He believes that truly competitive boxing requires the involvement of professional boxers and total transparency.
