Vurugu Fight Night was expected to be a highlight of the sporting calendar in Nairobi. However, the event has triggered a wave of questions from public figures following its conclusion. Actress Diana Luvanda is the latest to speak out regarding the conduct of the match.
Taking to her Instagram, Luvanda questioned why the referee allegedly allowed a specific illegal blow. She highlighted a moment where the winner, Majembe, appeared to hit his opponent, Mbavu Destroyer, in the groin.

A Controversial Victory at Kasarani
The match took place on 5 April 2026, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena. The bout ended with Majembe defeating Mbavu Destroyer via a knockout. While the crowd expected a clean fight, Luvanda's post suggested the rules were not strictly followed.
Luvanda shared her concerns with her followers, questioning the referee's oversight during the match. Her post asked why a fighter should be subjected to such hits without intervention.
"Lakini Mbona mtu apigwe kwa balls,” she questioned without mentioning names.
However, the specific blow she was questioning appears not to be on Mbavu’s groin but rather the lower stomach.
The controversy comes at a time when the rewards for such matches have reached record highs. Majembe did not just walk away with a title. He secured a total prize package valued at more than Sh 2.5 million.
Claims of a Fixed Outcome
Luvanda’s observations join a chorus of criticism regarding the event's integrity. Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria has also publicly challenged the legitimacy of the fight. In a detailed post, Mosiria claimed the entire event was a scheme to con innocent Kenyans.

He alleged that the match was "scripted" and suggested that the outcome was predetermined. Mosiria even claimed he had posted a message an hour before the fight that correctly predicted the result.
He named an individual called Obina as the primary beneficiary of the alleged script.
"The entire boxing match was scripted by Obinna... it was a mchezo wa Taon."
Concerns Over Professionalism
Mosiria also detailed his personal attempts to support Mbavu Destroyer before the fight. He claimed he had secured professional trainers from Kenya and Dubai. However, he says he was later pushed out of the arrangement due to coordinated propaganda.
The official noted that there are unverified claims circulating regarding the influence of betting interests on the match. He argued that for boxing to have a credible future in Kenya, it must involve professional boxers and ensure total transparency.
The Vurugu Fight Night was meant to showcase talent. Instead, the focus has shifted to the actions of the referee and the underlying management of the sport.
