
A three-year-old girl drowned in a river in Karandi, Laikipia County.
According to police, the child was playing with friends in the Bondeni area when she slipped into the river and drowned. Her body was later found stuck at Kinyotu Bridge and moved to the mortuary pending further procedures.
Police said they are investigating the incident that has left the family heartbroken. The case was among at least four drowning incidents reported on Thursday.
In Rachuonyo East Sub-County, Homa Bay County, police recovered the body of another three-year-old girl who drowned nearly a week ago. The incident was reported on Thursday at around 4:10 p.m., after a body was spotted floating in River Awach.
Preliminary investigations indicate the child drowned on March 26, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. while playing with other children in the river.
The body, which was in a decomposed state, was identified by the father. Police processed and documented the scene before moving the remains to Rachuonyo South Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause of death. Authorities urged parents and guardians to exercise heightened vigilance to prevent similar tragedies.
Meanwhile, an electrician was electrocuted in Chiga, Kisumu County. The body of 39-year-old Edwin Omondi was found in a pool of water on April 1. Police and Kenya Power and Lighting officials said he was at a construction site connecting electric cables to a nearby church when the incident occurred.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Such incidents have been linked to the use of unqualified personnel and illegal power connections.
In West Pokot County, a land dispute turned deadly when 52-year-old Abraham Chemala was killed by an arrow while on his farm in Katikomor. Locals attempted to torch houses belonging to the suspected assailant, resulting in nine homes being set ablaze before police intervened. Authorities fired warning shots to calm the situation.
Chemala’s body was moved to the mortuary for further procedures. Police noted that most murder incidents in the area are linked to land disputes and interpersonal conflicts.
