The Sh19 million debt dispute in Machakos County has taken an unexpected turn. Maureen Mwende Mutua, the sister of comedian Sammy Kioko, met with Governor Wavinya Ndeti at her private residence.
This meeting occurred only hours after Kioko was hospitalised with serious injuries following an alleged assault at the Governor’s office.
Kioko was reportedly beaten by county askaris on 31 March 2026 while demanding payment for services. Medical updates shared by fellow comedian 2mbili confirmed that Kioko suffered a severe fracture to his left thigh near the knee. He is currently in a plaster cast and is unable to walk.

A Surprise Meeting at the Governor’s Residence
While Kioko remained in his hospital bed, his sister—who identifies as the Director of Movata Designs—visited Governor Ndeti accompanied by her parents. In a video shared online, she offered an apology for the public nature of the dispute.
“We just wanted to say we're sorry and maybe that was the only way for us to express our frustrations, but now we know better,” said Maureen Mwende Mutua.
She clarified that the family’s primary goal was to secure the Sh19 million payment. She also urged the public not to "politicise" the matter. Governor Ndeti later stated that the issue had been "amicably resolved" and payment would follow established procedures.
Public and Celebrity Backlash
The meeting has sparked a wave of mixed reactions online. Many Kenyans expressed confusion over the sudden shift in tone from Kioko’s family.
Some social media users questioned the sister's loyalty, while others were simply relieved that payment might finally arrive.
@mcatricky: Seemed to anticipate the financial resolution, commenting, “Naskia ile pesa iko karibu kuingia, please ni-update.”
@ogaobinna: Expressed complete confusion at the fast-moving events, asking, “Guys sielewi... KIOKO AMELIPWA?? KIOKO AMEPONA??”
The general public’s response on social media ranged from accusations of betrayal to deep cynicism regarding the "amicable" resolution.
@ceo_dancunkinoti: Simply reacted with, “Wueeh judas,” implying a sense of betrayal by the family's apology.

@stanoh._: Pointed out the rapid shift in emotions, noting, “Si huyu Ndio nimeona akilia Tu sai...kwani ashaanza kusmile ju ya kuona Tu mhesh..haiyaa

@ongata__: Dismissed the meeting as a publicity stunt, saying, “Shosh ako PR.”

@judie_nzambi: Took a more pragmatic view, stating, “Ni sistake wacha sasa gavana awalipe without involving Kenyans.”
On Kioko's Injuries:
@sharonkkinoti: Remarked sadly on the cost of being heard: “Lazima kioko angevunjika mguu ndio wasikizwe.”
@luna_eve04: Reminded others of the physical reality: “Na kioko ako hosi kutibu majeraha.”

The Sh19 Million Dispute
The Governor has formally denied that Sammy Kioko is a registered supplier for the county. According to official records, the contract for inspectorate uniforms was awarded to Movata Designs, not Kioko himself.
Governor Ndeti maintained that her administration does not condone violence. However, she insisted that all suppliers must follow lawful channels rather than staging public demonstrations.
