Mystery surrounds first-year KMTC student’s death after night out in Nyeri

Detectives are investigating an incident in which a student at the Kenya Medical Training College in Nyeri was found dead.

The body of Sheila Chebet, a first-year student at the college, was discovered in the Rafina area, Karatina, on March 29, police said.

The circumstances surrounding the death and the motive remain unclear, police said.

Police took into custody a university student who was last seen with the deceased.

The individual was also in possession of the mobile phone belonging to the deceased, police said.

He told police he had spent the night with the deceased at a bar in Karatina town.

He said that after leaving the bar, he accompanied the deceased to a friend’s house in Rafina estate, where they had a disagreement.

He added that he then attempted to escort the deceased to Karatina stage, and while on the way, three men approached them. He said he ran, leaving the deceased behind.

He also said the three men took his mobile phone, but that he managed to keep the deceased’s mobile phone, a Redmi, which was recovered during the arrest.

The body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.

Meanwhile, detectives are investigating the death of a female security guard whose body was found in a quarry in Bahati, Nakuru County.

The body, discovered on Sunday afternoon, was missing the head.

She was identified as Jackline Awuor, who worked with Protective Custody Security Limited.

She had not reported to work, prompting colleagues to search for her.

The motive for her death was not immediately known, and her boyfriend is missing, police said.

The body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Police said on Tuesday that the individual was located in Navakholo, Kakamega County.

He had arrived there with his two-year-old daughter. Police said efforts to locate the woman’s head were ongoing.

He was taken into custody pending further questioning to establish the location of the head and other details, police said.
