The public funeral service for the late David Njuguna Kiaraho will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Ol Kalou Stadium, as leaders, family and constituents prepare to bid farewell to the three-term legislator.
Kiaraho, who served as MP for Ol Kalou Constituency, died on March 29, 2026, at around 1:20 am at Nairobi Hospital.
His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from across the political divide, with many describing him as a dedicated and people-centred leader.
Even as preparations for his send-off gather pace, the family has indicated that the late MP had expressly wished not to have a public viewing of his body.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku, who chairs the Ad-Hoc Funeral Organising Committee, assured lawmakers that Kiaraho’s constituents will still have an opportunity to pay their last respects.
“Honourable Kiaraho was a third-time MP, meaning he is a man of the people. Therefore, in consultation with the family, a resolution has been made to have a public memorial service for him in Ol Kalou Stadium on Wednesday,” Kwenya said.
He added that the arrangements were agreed upon during a planning meeting held at Parliament Buildings between the committee and members of the late MP’s family. Former Kikuyu MP Lewis Nguyai led the family delegation.
“The National Assembly shall, in consultation with the Ministry of Interior, ensure that the body of Kiaraho is airlifted to Ol Kalou on Wednesday, where there shall be a funeral service attended by leaders and all interested members of the public,” Kwenya stated.
Despite the casket being present during the Ol Kalou service, mourners will not be allowed to view the body, in line with the late legislator’s wishes and family tradition.
Following the Ol Kalou service, the family will spend the Easter weekend at their home in Nyandarua County. A vigil to celebrate Kiaraho’s life is scheduled for Sunday, April 5, 2026, at his rural residence.
The final memorial service will take place at St Andrew’s Church in Nairobi on the morning of Friday, April 10, before his burial later that day at his Tigoni farm in Limuru.
Born on October 2, 1963, Kiaraho was a trained architect and a graduate of the University of Nairobi, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. Before venturing into politics, he built a successful professional career and served as Principal Architect at Archgrid Systems, contributing to several infrastructure and built environment projects.
Colleagues in Parliament remembered him as a committed public servant who consistently championed development in his constituency.
Leaders and residents alike are expected to turn out in large numbers to honour a man widely regarded as both a seasoned professional and a devoted representative of his people.
