The tradition of polygamy in Kenya has moved from rural homesteads to the digital front pages, as a growing list of male celebrities openly embrace or advocate for multiple partners.
While some have made formal marital commitments, others are using their massive social media platforms to declare that exclusivity is not part of their brand.

The Pioneers of Transparency: Gody Tennor and Chipukeezy
In March 2026, Arbantone sensation Gody Tennor sent shockwaves through his female fan base by posting a "no lies" disclaimer on Instagram. The Huku hitmaker stated he is proudly polygamous and warned followers not to expect exclusivity. For Tennor, transparency is a professional courtesy to his fans.
Comedian Chipukeezy has been equally vocal, often citing his grandfather’s legacy of seven wives as his blueprint. In recent interviews, the 34-year-old comedian revealed he is dating multiple women, though he notes none have yet "qualified" to be a wife.
"It is a legacy I am pushing. My grandpa had seven wives; I am just following that tradition," Chipukeezy remarked during a past interview.
The Advocates: Stephen Letoo and the "Men’s Conference"
Citizen TV’s Stephen Letoo has arguably become the most prominent public face for polygamy. As the self-proclaimed "Chairman of the Men's Conference," Letoo spent years advocating for men to marry multiple wives to "reduce the number of single mothers."

However, his advocacy faced a humorous backlash in April 2024. After hosting a high-profile public wedding where he wed only one wife, Letoo was forced to resign his chairmanship.

Fans accused him of "preaching water and drinking wine," though he remains a staunch supporter of the lifestyle.
Gospel and Secular Stars: Muigai wa Njoroge and Samidoh
The world of Kikuyu music has seen the most public displays of polygamous friction. Gospel singer Muigai wa Njoroge lived as a polygamist for years with his wives Njeri and Queen Stacey.
By early 2026, however, the "glossy veneer" of his arrangement showed signs of strain, with reports suggesting a split between him and his second wife.
Similarly, Mugithi star Samidoh has been at the centre of a years-long tug-of-war between his first wife, Edday Nderitu, and Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu. After a public altercation in Dubai in December 2022, Edday eventually relocated to the USA. By 2024, Samidoh made a viral, albeit lighthearted, claim:
"I was a polygamous man, but now I am single," he stated, referring to the complicated status of his relationships.

The Modern Complexity: Professor Hamo and Karangu Muraya
Comedian Professor Hamo publicly committed to marrying fellow comedian Jemutai as a second wife in 2021 following a highly publicised fallout. While the two now focus on "co-parenting and friendship," Hamo’s initial declaration remains a key moment in celebrity polygamy.
Philanthropist Karangu Muraya also entered the fray in 2024 after marrying his second wife, Carol Kim. The move led to emotional public outcries from his first wife, Triza Njeri, who confessed to struggling with the transition.
This trend shows that while Kenyan law formally recognised polygamous marriages in 2014, the social and emotional reality remains a complex journey for the country’s most famous faces.
