Expanded eligibility window opens fresh pathway for thousands of past KCSE candidates to pursue subsidised medical training.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service has reopened its application portal for a fresh intake targeting Form Four leavers from the 2000 to 2025 KCSE cohorts.
The application window, which runs from March 28 to April 3, 2026, is also open to candidates who were unsuccessful in previous application cycles.
The previous application window for the March intake closed on March 13, 2026, and covered 31 diploma and certificate courses.
The placement agency said 21 diploma and certificate courses are available in the new round, comprising 13 diploma programmes and eight certificate options.
The diploma courses on offer include Health Records and Information Technology, Radiography and Imaging, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Orthopaedic Technology, Physiotherapy, Medical Engineering, Medical Social Work, Community Health, Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Mortuary Science, and Health Promotion.
The certificate courses are Health Insurance Management, Emergency Medical Technician, Community Health Assistant, Public Health, Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine, Medical Engineering, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Health Records and Information Technology.
For diploma programmes, the minimum KCSE entry requirement is a mean grade of C (plain), with a mandatory C (plain) in either English or Kiswahili, alongside additional subject requirements ranging from D+ to C (plain), depending on the course.
For certificate courses, the minimum entry grade ranges from D+ to C-, with some programmes requiring at least a C- in English or Kiswahili.
Subject requirements vary between D- and D+, depending on the specific course.
Training will be offered across KMTC’s 91 colleges and satellite campuses nationwide, based on course selection.
Eligible candidates are encouraged to submit their applications through the KUCCPS student portal within the stated timeline, following the provided guidelines.
Applicants are advised to carefully select both their preferred course and campus before final submission.
The reopening of the portal, which extends eligibility to earlier KCSE cohorts, offers an opportunity to thousands of Form Four leavers who have long been interested in pursuing medical diploma courses but were previously limited by financial constraints.
Before the establishment of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) in 2012, KMTC managed its own admissions independently, without offering sponsorship.
Under the old system, the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) handled university placements for government-sponsored students who met direct entry requirements.
However, candidates who qualified for university admission with a C+ or higher could still opt to apply directly to KMTC for diploma programmes as self-sponsored students, choosing a technical medical path over a government-sponsored university degree.
Since 2012, KUCCPS has taken over the placement process, facilitating admission of state-sponsored students into both universities and technical colleges, including KMTC.
This has also allowed students already placed in degree programmes to reapply to KMTC if they reconsider their career paths.
KMTC remains Kenya’s leading institution for training middle-level health professionals, attracting applicants from across the country and beyond.
Through its extensive network of campuses, the college continues to offer accessible, practical and market-driven training aimed at preparing graduates to serve communities both locally and globally.
