Coach Sammy Pamzo Omollo gives his players instructions during the halftime break/ANGWENYI GICHANAAdministration Police Service (APS) Bomet coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo says he is not under pressure despite the team languishing in the SportPesa League relegation zone.
Omollo, who spoke to reporters at Gusii Stadium on Sunday afternoon after a barren draw against Nairobi United, remained confident that the team would survive relegation.
The game was abandoned at half-time on Saturday due to a heavy downpour, which made the stadium unplayable. The second half was completed on Sunday morning.
“I was only under pressure when I was at Shabana, and we escaped relegation. I believe I know my team, and I believe we will be stronger in the upcoming games. We need two or three wins, and we are safe,” added the coach.
He said he was comfortable with the one point. “I appreciate this draw. The important thing is that we kept a clean sheet. For the first time, we have not conceded in two consecutive games. My problem was conceding in every game, and that is what I have been working on,” remarked the tactician.
He added, ” When a team is fighting relegation, getting one point is very important. This was a very good result for me. However, I’m not happy with playing one game for two days. It makes planning difficult.”
Omollo said both APS Bomet and Nairobi United resorted to long balls due to the poor state of the stadium. “We tried to create chances, but it was not possible because the pitch was in a bad state,” noted the experienced tactician. "
APS Bomet remain in the danger zone with 22 points from 26 points. On his part, Nairobi United’s Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor said: “Coming from two straight losses, I can say it was a good result for us because we picked a crucial away point. Both teams wanted to win this game, but sometimes that’s football.”
