The energy was high as the Kameme FM caravan made its way through the streets during a recent roadshow. Fans lined the roads, eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite radio personalities.

Among the sea of faces, Muthoni Wakirumba, popularly known as ‘Babytop’, spotted a moment that shifted the tone of the event from entertainment to a display of genuine kindness.

An Unexpected Encounter

While standing atop the moving caravan, Muthoni noticed a young man dressed in a bright green reflector jacket.

He had climbed onto a roadside stall and was leaning against an electric pole to get a better view. He was determined to capture the festivities on his mobile device, but it was clear he was struggling.

The fan was using an older, basic mobile phone. As he held it up, trying to record the passing show, the presenter took notice of the outdated technology. The contrast between the young man’s enthusiasm and the limitations of his "old school" phone caught Muthoni's eye.

A Promise of Support

Muthoni halted the flow of the show to address the fan directly. She called out to him, acknowledging his effort to be part of the moment despite his equipment. She asked him to come closer to the caravan so she could see the device for herself.

"Oh yeah. He came prepared," she remarked to the crowd. "Stay there, stay right there. Show me that little phone of yours. I will get you a phone from Phone Place.”

Touched by his dedication, she made a public pledge to change his situation. She announced to the gathered crowd that she would purchase a new, modern smartphone for the young man. She emphasised that the gesture was part of a broader responsibility to support the next generation.

"I saw the kind of phone he was recording us with, and I pitied him. We must uplift the youth, mustn't we? He is a good young man; let us buy him a phone,” she added.

Muthoni Wakirumba has established herself as a household name in the Central region of Kenya. Known for her vibrant personality and "Babytop" moniker, she has spent years hosting popular shows that blend music, humour, and social commentary.

Her recent act of generosity is consistent with the interactive nature of her broadcasts. The young man, who had started his afternoon simply hoping for a photo, ended it with the promise of a significant upgrade to his daily life.
