Soy United head coach Jeffers Odongo remains optimistic he can steer the club out of the current slump despite a worrying six-match winless run in the National Super League.

The tactician admitted the pressure is mounting, but insisted the team’s performances have not been as poor as the results suggest. “We have not won a game since February. It’s not that we are playing badly. Sometimes we dominate games, but we end up on the losing end,” he said.

Odongo, a CAF B licence holder, pointed to mentality issues and inefficiency in front of goal as key concerns. “In the Sunday game against Gucha Stars, which we lost 1-0, we dominated proceedings, especially in the second half.

However, we failed to convert our chances. This is partly due to the team’s mentality, but we shall work on that,” he explained.

Despite the dip in form, the coach dismissed fears of a deeper crisis. “There is no reason to worry. Every team goes through a difficult run, and we believe we shall overcome and turn things around,” he added.

Soy United, who play their home matches at the Eldoret ASK Grounds, currently sit 12th on the table with 33 points from 25 matches.

They will be aiming to end their winless streak when they face Darajani Gogo this Saturday. Odongo also attributed the struggles to significant mid-season changes, revealing that eight first-team players left during the transfer window—many of whom joined clubs in the Kenyan Premier League.

“Some of the players joined top-tier clubs, which is good for their growth. We would have lost even more, but we decided to retain a few until the end of the season,” he noted.

However, the departures have created opportunities for emerging talent. “We now have players featuring in the NSL for the first time, and they have given a good account of themselves,” he said.

On the team’s ambitions, Odongo maintained that Soy United still harbour outside hopes of promotion, insisting a strong finish could see them challenge for a third-place spot.
