Participants at a previous Lewa Marathon/ HANDOUTOver 2,000 runners are set to lace up for a cause at this year’s Lewa Safari Marathon on June 27, with the race aiming to raise Sh15 million in support of endangered wildlife conservation.
Since its inaugural edition in 2000, the marathon has evolved into more than just a test of endurance, emerging as a powerful engine for conservation funding.
The event has so far generated Sh1.3 billion, channelled into initiatives that have delivered tangible results, including the doubling of Hawksbill turtles and a significant rise in the population of young Grevy’s zebras.
Set against the breathtaking yet demanding terrain of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, this year’s programme features the full marathon, half marathon, 10km race and a children’s race.
