The 2021 Amsterdam Marathon champion Angela Tanui hopes to master a first podium finish of the season at thePrague Marathon, Czech Republic, on Sunday.

Tanui has already ran in the Czech capital, at the Prague Half Marathon on March 28.

In that race, the 33-year-old finished sixth, crossing the line in 1:08:40.

Caroline Gitonga led a Kenyan podium sweep after clocking 1:06:16, while Jesca Chelangat (1:06:45) and Cynthia Chepkwony (1:06:49) stormed home second and third respectively.

Despite a stuttering start to the season, Tanui boasts an impressive pedigree on the roads.

Last year, the seasoned distance ace produced back-to-back podium finishes at the Paris marathon and Kunming marathon.

In Paris, she clocked 2:21:07 to finish behind Ethiopians Bedatu Hirpa (2:20:45) and Dera Dida (2:20:49).

At Kunming, she timed 2:33:25 to settle behind Meseret Belete (2:28:29) and Meseret Abebayahau (2:28:38).

Her road-running honours also include her memorable triumph at the 2021 Amsterdam marathon in 2:17:57, as well as victory in Siena marathon where she posted 2:20:08.

Tanui has also bagged runner-up finishes at the Daegu Marathon in 2024 (2:21:12) and the Abu Dhabi Marathon in 2022 (2:21:12).

In Prague, Tanui will also be joined by Visiline Jepkesho, the 2018 Rotterdam marathon champion.

Jepkesho will be making her first appearance of the season after a mixed bag of results in 2025.

Her campaign last year saw her finish fourth at the Guadalajara half marathon (1:13:41), second at the Ottawa marathon (2:28:09), fourth at the Mexico City marathon (2:34:53) and fifth at the Taipei marathon (2:36:10).

In the men’s race, Justus Limo leads the Kenyan charge as he hunts his first podium finish of the year. Limo opened his 2026 season with a fourth-place finish at the Seville marathon, stopping the clock in 2:04:55.

That contest was dominated by Ethiopians led by Shura Kitata (2:03:59), while Asrar Hiyrden (2:03:59) and Dejene Hailu (2:04:15) completed the podium sweep.

Joining him on the Czech streets will be Barselius Kipyego. In more road races this weekend, Philemon Kimaiyo will lead the men's charge at the Stramilano half marathon in Italy joined by Cosmas Boi.

In the women's race, Jedidah Sang will be Kenya's headliner.

At the Cali Marathon in Colombia, Ronald Korir will team up with Kenyan distance great and two time world marathon champion Abel Kiru as Cynthia Kosgei leads the women's race.
