The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested an officer attached to the Nakuru Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO) over alleged bribery.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the anti-graft agency said the arrest followed a complaint from a member of the public who accused the officer of demanding a bribe to facilitate the replacement of a confiscated water meter in Langa Langa Estate.
According to the commission, the complainant reported that the officer had demanded Sh15,000 to fast-track reinstatement of the water meter, a service that should ordinarily be carried out through official procedures without extra charges.
"The suspect,a Leak Detection Officer, was apprehended on March 23, 2026, following a complaint by a member of the public who claimed the officer demanded Sh 15,000 to facilitate the replacement of a confiscated water meter in Langa Langa Estate," the statement says.
Acting on the complaint, EACC investigators launched a targeted operation that culminated in the arrest of the suspect while allegedly receiving the bribe.
The operation was part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption in public institutions and service delivery sectors, particularly in essential utilities such as water supply.
During the arrest, the EACC said the investigators recovered Sh15,000 believed to be part of the bribe money.
A further search led to the recovery of Sh100,000 concealed in socks and an additional Sh18,000 from the suspect’s coat pocket.
The commission indicated that the recovered cash is being treated as part of the ongoing investigations to establish its source and whether it is linked to other alleged corrupt activities.
The suspect was escorted to the commission’s South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and recording of statements before being transferred to Central Police Station, where he was detained.
"He will be released on a police cash bail of Sh20,000 pending conclusion of the investigation," EACC said.
The commission reiterated its commitment to fighting corruption and warned public officers against engaging in bribery or abusing their positions for personal gain.
The anti-graft agency has in recent months intensified operations targeting corruption in county governments, state corporations and public service sectors.
A week ago, the agency arrested a court assistant attached to the Mombasa Law Courts over alleged bribery.
In a statement, the commission said the suspect allegedly solicited and received a Sh10,000 bribe from a complainant in exchange for interfering with a court process.
According to investigators, the court assistant is accused of demanding the money to conceal or withhold a court file in which the complainant is an accused person in an ongoing criminal case, with the intention of delaying or frustrating the judicial process.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged with the anti-graft body on March 13, 2026.
EACC said it conducted investigations that confirmed the existence of the bribery demand, prompting officers to set up a sting operation.
