Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has resurfaced at his Karen home after being reported missing along with his aide on Saturday evening.

Tuju’s vehicle was earlier found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen, with hazard lights still on, prompting an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Addressing the media at his home, Tuju dismissed claims that he had been abducted, saying he went into hiding after fearing for his safety.

The former CS is currently involved in a legal battle with a bank over a Sh2.2 billion loan, an amount that the courts have sought to recover through the attempted auction of his Dari Limited property.

Tuju explained that his fears began Friday evening when he noticed he was being trailed by unknown individuals.

"It's easy to know when you are being followed; you drive, you slow down—they slow down, you overtake—they try to overtake," he said.

He said he reported the incident to Karen police and recounted that on Saturday, while heading to a radio interview, he spotted the same vehicle—a Landcruiser—trailing him again.

"This time, it was a little more concerning. The vehicle didn’t have plate numbers, so I got very worried," Tuju said, confirming that he was driving while his aide sat in the passenger seat.

Looking somewhat frail and traumatised, Tuju appeared at his home accompanied by a section of United Opposition leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Justin Muturi, Eugene Wamalwa, and lawyer PLO Lumumba, who he said were present to show solidarity.
