Despite the loss, Mombasa United remains top of the log with 52 points, three ahead of Migori Youth, who have a chance to close the gap when they host FC Talanta at Awendo Green Stadium on Monday. A win by more than three goals would see Migori move to the summit.
At Gusii Stadium, Soy United extended their winless streak to six games after losing 1-0 to Gucha Stars.
Paul Chacha scored the crucial goal for the hosts. Soy United coach Jeffers Odongo lamented missed opportunities, saying, “We dominated the game against Gucha, but we did not utilise several scoring chances. We must work on our attack. On a positive note, the officiating was superb.”
Gucha Stars’ goalkeeper trainer Boniface Nyakebako praised the heroics of Enyinnaya Okeiyi, who made four crucial saves.
“He was outstanding throughout the game. I’m proud of him,” Nyakebako said.
Elsewhere, Equity Bank strengthened their promotion bid with a 1-0 win over Kabati Youth at Thika Stadium, while Luanda Villa recorded a morale-boosting 1-0 victory against former FKF Premier League side Nairobi City Stars at Mumboha Stadium.
3K FC dropped points in their promotion push after a 1-1 draw with Darajani Gogo, while the Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) stayed in the title race with a hard-fought 3-2 win over struggling Vihiga United at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.
Mwatate United’s relegation worries deepened following a 3-1 defeat to Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium, while Naivas FC compounded Mully Children’s Family (MCF)’s woes with a 1-0 victory in Ndalani. Kibera Black Stars bounced back with a 1-0 win over Kisumu All Stars.
