Harambee Starlets’ midfielder Martha Amunyolet is confident of emerging top scorer at the ongoing Cecafa women’s tournament in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Amunyolet who grabbed a quick-fire brace in the opening minutes of Starlets opening clash against Burundi in their 3-0 victory on Saturday June 15, before adding one as Starlets thrashed Uganda 4-0 on Tuesday, June 17, says she has just started and will be going for more goals.
The Vihiga Queens midfield stalwart who was awarded with ksh 12,000 after being voted the woman of the match against Burundi, belives it is her time to shine and will continue putting in an extra shift.
“Against Budundi I scored two and I added one against Uganda, and I will not let my country down. I will be going for more goals against South Sudan this evening before crowning it against Tanzania to ensure I bring home the golden boot.”
Amunyolet, said team work is key to her success and they will continue to pull together to also ensure they win the title, despite hosts Tanzania emerging as favorites.
Meanwhile, Diana Wachera who was also on target against the Uganda Crested cranes said they have what it takes to win the title , and is confident they will emerge victors despite facing tough opponents.
“We have so far had two great games winning both without conceding a single goal, which shows we are a good side. It has not been easy though, since all teams are fighting for the title. We just have to fight hard and follow our coaches’ instructions to emerge winners.” Said the Police bullets midfielder.
Starlets assistant coach Geoffery “Solo” Oduor on the other is not yet thinking about fellow title contenders Tanzania, and is focusing on their battle against minnows South Sudan. The Sudanese fell 4-0 to Tanzania before followed by another 5-0 hammering in the hands of Tanzania.
“We are focused on beating South Sudan but we will approach the game cautiously, despite losing their first two games anything is possible in football and we have to prepare well, before thinking about the final clash against hosts Tanzania.” Said the tactician.
Kenya who are tied at six points with hosts Tanzania on top of the table, battle South Sudan at 4pm at the Azam sports complex, before paving way for hosts Tanzania against Uganda.
Starlets will conclude their fixtures against Tanzania on Saturday, 21 June, in the round-robin format.
