AFC Leopards right back Lewis Bandi has  broken the Kenyan football social media space after making the bold move of crossing over from AFC Leopards to sworn rivals Gor Mahia.  

This follows his exemplary performances as Harambee stars beat Morocco 1-0 in a historic CHAN clash at Kasarani on Sunday August 10, 2025.

The move did not auger well with majority of Ingwe fans who branded him a traitor for sneaking from the Leopards den to the green army side.

Led by new Leopards chairperson Boniface Ambani  Ingwe lovers couldn’t their his disappointment.

“Lewis Bandi's case is very disappointing, I have maintained constant contact with the player including the two opening games for Kenya where he dint play, continuously encouraging while reminding him that his time will eventually come. “I was surprised like anyone else to see him with Gor officials, he never joined Leopards for the mandatory medical test,  before renewal of his contract, all we can do now is wish him all the best" Said Ambani. 

Bandi’s contract ended last month and  had allegedly agreed to renew after the CHAN tournament.  However, he  allegedly switched off his phone and was later seen with Gor Mahia patron Eliud Owalo during their off day from Harambee stars camp on Tuesday, August 14, 2025, having agreed a two year deal. 

This move raffled the Mulembe nation feathers as they felt he had betrayed club loyalty making him an enemy, leading  to an online back lash from Ingwe loyals for chosing KO’gallo when they are rebuilding to fight for the elusive KPL title. 

“It breaks my heart seeing a very talented player like Lewis Bandi leaving the club and joining our greatest rivals. Yes, players come and go but this has added pain in my heart . We were not expecting such a move. Anyway, all the best. Said  Mvinyo Vinyo a die hard Leopards fan. 

Bandi 22, was Born and bred in Makadara, Nairobi and joined Leopards Youth team in 2015 and made his debut under former Leopard’s head coach, Anthony Kimani on 7 January 2021, against KCB at Kasarani Annex. 

The utility player  was called-up to the U20  national team in 2021, followed by the U23 Emerging Stars, and eventually the senior national team, Harambee Stars. 

Bandi becomes the seventh signing at KO’gallo after  Bryne Omondi, Fidel Origa, Siraj Mohammed  all from Bandari FC, joined  Gor. Others are Mike Kibwage of Tusker  Felix Oluoch Posta Rangers and Veron Ombima from Darajani Gogo.

He joins the list of playes who switched to rivals Gor Mahia or visa avi led by former chairman Dan Shikanda. Others are Ivan Anguyo, Eric Masika, Clifton Miheso, Wycliffe Kasaya, Peter Opiyo, Collins Okoth and Timonah Wanyonyi.
