The Confederation of African football (CAF) yesterday handed Kenya the hosting rights of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on 30 August 2025, as the tournament.
Tanzania will host the opening ceremony and the first match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on 02, August 2025 while Uganda will host the third place at the Mandela Stadium in Kampala.
Additionally, Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium has been designated as one of the Host Venues – a decision that emphasizes CAF’s commitment to expanding the reach and exclusivity of African football.
The Island had a successful test match, when the CAF Confederation Cup second leg finals between Tanzania’s Simba SC and RS Berkane of Morocco was played at theAmaan Stadium in 25 May 2025, with Berkane holding Simba to a 1-1 draw to clinch the title 3-1 on aggregate
The East African nations will co-host the biennial tournament for the first time under the “Pamoja umbrella” having won the rights in 18 December 2023.
The tournament takes place on 02-30 August, 2025, marking a return to East African soil following the 2016 edition held in Kigali, Rwanda.

international sports center Kasarani has been under renovations since August
2023 and has been approve CAF after getting a major face lift.
The playing surface was replaced after previously failing the CAF standards tests, while the roofing is now complete after the successful installation of a canopy all .
Apart from Kasarani, Nyayo National Stadium was also closed in January 2024 with the government also constructing a brand new Talanta Sports City Stadium in readiness CHAN and the 2027 AFCON.
Ulinzi sports complex and Police Sacco stadium will be used as training grounds for the nations participating in the tournament.
The tournament was initially set for February 1-28, but was postponed to August 2025, as CAF and Infrastructure experts recommended that host nations to be given more time to prepare facilities to the required level.
This is the first time Kenya is hosting an continental final having been stripped the AFCON 1996 tournament and the CHAN 2028 tournaments, due to lack of standard infrastructure.
Kenya will battle Morocco, Angola, DR Congo and Zambia in tough Group A, while Tanzania will battle Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Central African Republic in Group B. Group has co-hosts Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, Algeria. Defending champions Senegal, will lock horns with Congo, Sudan, Nigeria *Following the decision of the of the CAF Appeals Board, Equatorial Guinea was replaced by Congo.
