Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic believes his charges have begun to understand his tactical concept following a resounding 3-1 victory over Kariobangi Sharks at Dandora Stadium on Wednesday.

The win thrust the record champions to 39 points, three within league leaders Kenya Police and with a game in hand, further reigniting their aspirations for back-to-back Kenyan Premier League titles.

Mihic lavished praise on his charges, noting that they showcased a resurgence that speaks volumes about the side’s strategic evolution. He believes they have what it takes to saunter to a record 22nd title.

“The alignment of strategy and execution can often spell the difference between triumph and defeat. Our emphasis on tactical discipline and fluidity has started to bear fruit, as evidenced by the team’s performance against the Sharks this evening,” Mihic said.

“This proximity to the summit of the league table ignites a sense of possibility and ambition within the squad.”

He acknowledged the challenge ahead to remain consistent and resilient.

“The Kenyan Premier League is notorious for its competitive nature, where even the most formidable teams can falter. Our strategic acumen will be tested as we navigate the complexities of each match. We must ensure the players remain focused,” he said.

In stark contrast, Kariobangi Sharks’ head coach, William Muluya, lamented their inexperience. While Sharks showcased moments of brilliance, their inability to maintain composure in crucial phases of the game cost them.

“For teams like Kariobangi Sharks, nurturing young players while instilling a sense of resilience and tactical awareness is essential for long-term success. In a league where competition is fierce and the margin for error is slim, such attributes are invaluable,” Muluya said.

“The lessons learned from this match will undoubtedly inform our future endeavours as we seek to cultivate a squad capable of competing at the highest level. We are going back to the drawing board to address the weaknesses we witnessed. We can bounce back,” he said.

Sharks are dangling precariously at the far end of the table, 14th with 24 points in 23 matches.
