Kisii Sports Club chairman Adrian Monari said Kitale, Naivasha, Nakuru, and Njoro’s applications will be considered during the regional Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Kisii on January 10. Before the AGM, golfers will battle it out in a ‘grand finale’.
The league features six clubs, which include Kisii Sports Club, Nyanza Club, Kakamega Sports Club, Nandi Bears Club, Kericho Club, and Eldoret Club.
“The league is robust. After just two seasons, four more clubs have applied to join this year, which will make the league more competitive,” noted Monari.
Monari added that they are targeting to defend their Western Conference League title, which they won last year. Kericho won the inaugural edition in 2024.
Speaking to the Star after the End of Year Members Challenge, Monari said they aim to grow the number of golfers, especially juniors, this year.
Monari said last year that there was a significant growth in golfers, including ladies.
“Over 40 juniors were trained in 2025 with the support of the Junior Golf Foundation. This year, we want to double the numbers because these juniors are our future,” said Monari.
He said together with the club’s leadership, they want to develop the golf course to better standards.
“We want to increase sand bunkers, add water features, and have irrigation for the greens. We also want the Kenya Golf Union to re-rate the course,” remarked Monari.
He said last year, there was significant development of the course, which included the introduction of hazards, sand bunkers, extended tee boxes, massive tree planting, and bridges for player safety.
Monari revealed that last year’s highlights were hosting the inaugural Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Kisii Open, which was dubbed Shabana Open, the first-ever ladies Golf of the Year (GOTY) Western Region tournament, and the 1st Western Junior Open.
“We are on track to make Kisii Sports Club an excellent golfing hub in the region,” he said.
At the same time, Elizabeth Mose emerged as the overall winner of the End-of-Year Member’s Challenge. Mose, playing off handicap 15 carded an impressive stableford 37 points to beat a huge field of 40 golfers.
Geoffrey Karioki emerged as the first runner up with 34 points, and Dick Nyagaka as the second runner-up with 33 points.
Veteran golfer Christopher Maato, playing off handicap eight, was the men’s winner with 35 points, while Sharon Moraa emerged the ladies winner after carding 25 points.
Moses Momanyi emerged as the senior winner with 36 points and Terrence Kito the junior winner with 33 points.
