Dismas Indiza tees off at the Sunshine Development Tour East Africa Swing Ruiru Leg/HANDOUTDismas Indiza and John Lejirma will renew their rivalry when the Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing makes its fifth stop at Ruiru Sports Club from Sunday to Tuesday.
The three-day tournament, which has attracted 63 professionals, amateurs and junior golfers, will be preceded by a Pro-Am on Saturday, offering players and partners an opportunity to sample the course ahead of the main event.
Indiza and Lejirma headline a strong field that will battle for Sunshine Development Tour Order of Merit points, Official World Golf Ranking and World Amateur Golf Ranking points.
The Kakamega Sports Club veteran will return to Ruiru seeking to defend the title he won dramatically last year after overcoming Lejirma in a sudden-death playoff. Indiza started last year’s final round five shots behind Lejirma but fought back to tie at four-under-par 212 after 54 holes. He then sank a birdie on the par-four 18th during the playoff to edge his Royal Nairobi rival and claim the title. The pair will again face a strong Kenya
n professional field comprising Samuel Njoroge Chege, Greg Snow, Daniel Nduva, Michael Karanga, David Wakhu, Edwin Mudanyi, Mohit Mediratta and Taimur Malik, among others.
Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera leads the international challenge, with golfers from Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Malawi and Burundi also expected to compete. Tournament director David Kihara expects another tight contest at Ruiru, given the strength of the field and last year’s thrilling finish.
“Ruiru has consistently delivered competitive golf, and we are expecting another exciting contest this year. We have a strong field bringing together experienced professionals, emerging players and amateurs from across the region, which should make for a very competitive three days,” said Kihara.
He added that the return of Indiza and Lejirma would provide an intriguing subplot following their dramatic duel last year. The tournament will also provide a platform for emerging and amateur golfers to test themselves against established professionals as they seek valuable competitive experience.
