This is after the most experienced striker in the team Masoud Juma was ruled out with an injury he picked against DR Congo in their 1-0 victory in Sunday August 3, 2025 at Kasarani stadium.
Masoud who missed a sitter in the first half by hitting the ball direct at Congo goalkeeper Efonge Liyongo, despite having all the time on his hands lasted only 60 minutes before being substituted with a foot injury.
Harambee stars head coach Benni McCarthy confirmed the injury, and hinted that he would not be able to face the “Palancas Negras” tonight.
"We don't want to take chances, but it is not a very serious one. There are no other injury concerns apart from Masoud," Said McCarthy.
McCarthy also confirmed young teenage defender Mansur Okwaro and David Sakwa shook off small knocks and will be available for selection.
Masoud 29, alongside captain Aboud Omar and goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo are the only players who were involved when Kenya played in the AFCON 2019 tournament in Cairo Egypt.
Kenya will be seeking a second successive victory to emulate their co-hosts Tanzania who overcame Mauritius 1-0 last night in Dar es Salaam, to stay on course to the second round with six points in group B.
McCarthy expects a completely different ball game against the Angolans who had more procession against Morocco despite falling 2-0.
“Angola pressed high from the start. That brings a different challenge,” McCarthy said. “But we want to stay calm and composed. We started the first match nervously, and we want to avoid that."
Goalkeeper Bryne Omondi who had a solid game against Congo will likely maintain his position and will be shielded by Alphonse Omija and Sylvester Owino at the heart of defense. Daniel Sakari will take his position at right back while captain Msoud Juma climing the opposite position.
Ryan Ogam will likely maintain his right-wing position while Austin Odhiambo Alpha Onyango and Mansour Okwaro completing the four-man midfield.
Brian Michira, Austin Odongo, Boniface Muchiri, Felix Oluoch and Edward Omondi will be hoping to get the nod to fill the two spots upfront to complete the 4-4-2 formation.
A win for stars will see them get ksh 1 million from president William Ruto and the woudned Atntelopes of Angola will be out to spoil the Kenyan party. With no injuries in their camp, head coach coach Pedro Gonçalves will be hoping the experienced duo of Agostinho Matias and Jó Paciência will hit the back of the net afetr shooting blanks against Morocco on Sunday.
The match kicks off at 7pm under the Kasarani floodlights and will be preceded by another group A clash between Zambia and DR Congo at Nyayo stadium.
