The latest World Happiness Report 2026 highlights a familiar trend: Northern Europe continues to dominate the global rankings for life satisfaction.
According to data released on March 19, 2026, Finland retains its title as the happiest country in the world with a leading score of 7.8 out of 10.
The rankings, which average survey data from 2023 to 2025, show a strong preference for the Nordic model.
Iceland and Denmark follow closely behind, both tied with a score of 7.5.
While Europe takes up eight of the top ten spots—including Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Switzerland—Costa Rica stands out as a significant entry in the fourth position (7.4), representing the highest life satisfaction in Latin America.
These scores reflect how over 100,000 respondents perceive their well-being based on factors like social support, freedom, and institutional trust.
