MOFA coach Charles Warinda (L) with Gucha Stars' Sammy Okoth at Gusii Stadium/ANGWENYI GICHANAMicheal Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) coach Charles Warinda expressed his disappointment at their loss to 3K FC on Sunday.
MOFA's promotion hopes were dealt a blow after losing 1-0 to 3K FC at Moi Stadium, Embu County. Newton Njue scored the crucial goal in the 11th minute.
Warinda said he was a bit disappointed with how they started the game and conceded an early goal.
However, he said all is not lost. “The competition for the three NSL promotion slots is still on. We still have 15 games to go. That loss is now behind us, and we have shifted our focus to the game against Vihiga United,” said Warinda.
The tactician admitted the game against Vihiga United will be tough after the bottom-of-the-league side upset Kibera Black Stars 1-0.
Vihiga suffered a blow after their coach, Milton Kidiga, ditched the club for SportPesa League side Sofapaka.
Coach Warinda added, “Our main undoing in the game was putting the ball in the net. Our opponents were defensive; occasionally, we beat their defence but did not score. We have to be more aggressive, especially in front of the goal.”
Despite the loss, MOFA remained third on the table while 3K moved to fourth.
His 3K FC counterpart, Nicodemus Omasete, said they will take their remaining games as finals. “We shall approach our remaining games with the seriousness they require,” he said, ahead of their game against relegation-threatened Darajani Gogo.
Reflecting on the game against MOFA, Omasete said, “It was a tough game against a team that is in the promotion race. We planned to score early, and by the 11th minute, we were ahead. We made some mistakes, but we shall work on that before we face Darajani Gogo,” noted the tactician.
Omasete joined the club in February, following the suspension of Francis Chege. Goal scorer Joseph Bate said the goal will give him confidence to continue scoring. It was his third goal of the season in the National Super League.
