Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has vowed to intensify his engagements in Meru county, saying for every one trip made by opposition leaders to the region, he will make 20 visits.
He said his presence in the county is aimed at supporting service delivery and countering what he described as attempts to spread misinformation.
“I have declared that for every one trip the opposition team makes to Meru county, I will make twenty trips. I am their medicine. No one will come here to incite our people through falsehoods,” he said.
Kindiki spoke on Tuesday while addressing residents during an inspection tour of government development projects and a public sensitisation event.
He said his visits are focused on development oversight rather than political mobilisation, insisting that leaders should prioritise tangible projects that benefit residents.
Kindiki criticised opposition figures, accusing them of focusing on rhetoric instead of development initiatives.
“None of these people lecturing us are angels. Ask them to show you just one project they lobbied for in Buuri, Meru or Mt Kenya. None. All they pursued were personal interests,” he said.
The DP said leaders should concentrate on delivering roads, electricity, water and public transport infrastructure, arguing that such services directly improve livelihoods.
“There are people bringing discord here. The leaders we want are those who will deliver roads, electricity, water and buses for our children,” he said.
Kindiki’s remarks come amid heightened political activity in parts of the Mt Kenya region, where government and opposition leaders have stepped up visits ahead of future political contests.
He also addressed claims by some opposition leaders urging residents to reconsider their political choices, saying such efforts would not distract the government from its development agenda.
The administration remains committed to equitable distribution of development projects across counties and continued engagement with local communities, Kindiki said.
“We cannot allow some of our brothers to mislead us and land our people into a ditch. Never,” he said.
During the tour, Kindiki inspected ongoing infrastructure and development initiatives, reiterating that the government will continue implementing programmes aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening economic growth in the region.
He said sustained engagement with residents would remain part of the government’s strategy to accelerate project implementation and reinforce its presence on the ground.
