Water supply has resumed in several parts of Nairobi after the repair of a major transmission pipeline damaged by recent floods, the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced.

In an update issued on March 17, the company said the pipeline along Outering Road had been fully repaired and restored, allowing normal distribution to resume in affected areas.

“Water supply as per our distribution schedule has resumed to all previously affected areas,” the company said.

The areas now receiving water include Buruburu Phases 1 and 2, Kariobangi South and North, Dandora, parts of Mathare and surrounding estates.

The restoration comes a day after the utility warned of prolonged outages due to ongoing repair works, which had been slowed by heavy rains.

The company had earlier indicated that only a small section of the damaged pipeline remained incomplete.

“Due to safety concerns for our staff and equipment, we had to halt works temporarily. We hope to resume and complete repairs later today, weather permitting,” the company said in its March 16 update.

The disruption had affected several neighbourhoods across the city, including Eastleigh Section 3, Kiambiu, Jerusalem, Uhuru, Jericho, Ofafa, Harambee estates, Korogocho, Lower Kabete Lane and Brookeside Drive.

At the time, residents were advised to order water through bowser services as the utility worked to restore supply.

“Residents can order water by dialling *260# and selecting Option 5,” the company said.

Following the completion of the main transmission line, the company said its teams have now shifted attention to remaining faults in the distribution network.

“Our teams have now shifted focus to ongoing repairs on the distribution lines serving Kiambiu and Korogocho,” the company said.

It added that “works are progressing well” and expressed optimism that supply to the remaining affected areas would be restored soon.

The utility also acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruption, which followed recent flooding that damaged key infrastructure.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as our dedicated teams work towards completing these repairs,” the company said.

The restoration of supply is expected to ease pressure on households and businesses that had experienced days of water shortages due to the damage to the Outering Road pipeline.
