Kenya Power has partnered with German adventurer Rainer Zietlow as he transits through the country on a record-breaking global electric vehicle expedition.

Zietlow is undertaking an ambitious world tour aimed at setting a new Guinness World Record milestone for visiting the highest number of countries in a single journey using a fully electric vehicle.

Dubbed the ID Buzz World Tour, the expedition spans more than 75 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas.

The driver has already covered over 60,000 kilometres and is targeting more than 80,000 kilometres by the end of the journey.

During his time in Kenya, Kenya Power said it will provide charging services at key points, including the Stima Plaza EV charging station in Nairobi and a newly installed charger in Voi, ensuring smooth transit across the country.

The company said Kenya’s involvement underscores its growing investment in electric mobility infrastructure, positioning the country as a key player in the transition to clean transport.

In a video shared by the power company, Zietlow said he has now reached 60 countries by coming to Kenya, and he is trying to get the Guinness World Record for visiting the most countries.

“It's very nice that Kenya Power is charging my car. We are here at Athi River. We have already charged in Kisumu and Nakuru, and there is a great charger in Nairobi. Now we are heading to Voi and then Mombasa to catch a ship to the Middle East,” he said.

“I'm very happy to be charged here in Kenya. We’ve come all the way from South Africa through Botswana, Zambia and Tanzania. Here in Kenya, the infrastructure is quite good, so for us it’s not a big issue with charging. In other countries, there are no chargers, so we go to substations with the national energy companies.”

Zietlow is a German world record holder, long-distance driver and founder of the Challenge4 agency based in Mannheim, Germany.

Six of his long-distance driving records and two altitude records have been officially recognised by Guinness World Records.

Zietlow’s career in endurance driving spans decades. In 1988, he crossed the Sahara Desert to Niger in a Mercedes 230, followed by another trans-Saharan journey to Cameroon in 1990 using a Toyota Land Cruiser BJ 55.

In 1996, he completed a round-the-world drive in a Land Rover Defender 110 in just six months.

In 2004, he founded Challenge4 GmbH, a company that specialises in planning and executing international long-distance and record-breaking expeditions. Since 2005, the agency has successfully delivered more than 20 such projects.

Beyond his expeditions, Zietlow has consistently supported the SOS Children's Villages. Since 2004, he has incorporated charitable contributions into most of his global tours, often donating during visits to SOS Children’s Villages around the world.
