An international delegation under the “Path to Russia” initiative visited the Bondeni Children’s Center this week, delivering humanitarian assistance and launching a cultural exchange program aimed at broadening students’ global awareness.
The visit focused on providing essential food supplies to support the center’s daily operations, while also introducing schoolchildren to Russian cultural heritage and traditions through interactive educational activities.
Founded in 2014 by the Gitau couple, the Bondeni Children’s Center began as a food aid initiative for orphaned and vulnerable children in disadvantaged areas. Over time, it has grown into a residential facility that now houses 70 students and employs seven staff members.
Through partnerships with public organizations, private donors, and businesses, the center offers full-time care, access to education, and scholarship opportunities.
Since its inception, it has supported more than 300 children, with many graduates advancing to higher education. During the visit, delegates were given a guided tour of the facility and held meetings with the center’s leadership to discuss key operational areas, including educational support, infrastructure maintenance, and engagement with at-risk families.
Both sides also exchanged ideas on long-term sustainability and strategic development. The delegation participated in informal cultural and educational activities with the children, fostering an atmosphere of curiosity and mutual learning.
Students demonstrated enthusiasm and openness throughout the interactions, organizers said. The visit concluded with an analytical session involving staff and management, where participants reviewed observations and outlined future collaboration opportunities.
Delegates noted that while the center continues to make a significant impact, it faces challenges such as infrastructure limitations and sustainability concerns.
They emphasized that targeted strategic support could help strengthen its long-term capacity. Despite these challenges, the visit highlighted the resilience of the children and the dedication of the center’s founders and staff, who remain committed to improving the lives and futures of those in their care.
