Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company technical team fixing destroyed water pipes/NWSC

The Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company has advised residents to order water through its bowser services after recent floods disrupted supply to several areas of the city.

The company said repair works on a damaged transmission pipeline along Outering Road were ongoing, with only a small section remaining to be completed.

Heavy rains, particularly across the river section, have slowed operations.

“Due to safety concerns for our staff and equipment, we had to halt works temporarily. We hope to resume and complete repairs later today, weather permitting,” the company said.

Residents can order water by dialling *260# and selecting Option 5.

The supply disruption has affected Buruburu Phases 1 and 2, Kariobangi South and North, Dandora 1, parts of Mathare, Eastleigh Section 3, Kiambiu, Jerusalem, Uhuru, Jericho, Ofafa, Harambee estates, Korogocho, Lower Kabete Lane and Brookeside Drive.

Nairobi currently faces persistent water shortages due to high demand of more than 900 million litres per day against a limited supply of 525 million litres, compounded by damaged infrastructure and leaks.

The city’s water sources include Thika, Sasumua and Ruiru dams, and the Ng’ethu treatment plants.

Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company acting managing director Martin Nang’ole said technical teams are on-site, mobilising flushing units, mobile workshops and cranes to carry out repairs.

Debris removal at Mwagu intake, affecting the Ng’ethu treatment plant, is also underway.

Critical welding and fabrication work along the Outering Road Pipeline is in progress to restore water to affected areas.

New pipelines are being hoisted above the river level to prevent damage from future floods.
