MOFA coach Charles Warinda at Gusii Stadium during the game against Gucha Stars/ANGWENYI GICHANAThe Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) coach, Carles Warinda, says his players must step up their game when they face 3K FC on Sunday at Moi Stadium, Embu.
“The league is competitive, and games are getting tough. We must up our game for us to get a positive result on Sunday,” said Warinda. The game will be played
Even though he said he is happy with the team's performance so far, he feels they need to put in more effort as they push for promotion to the SportPesa League.
“I’m looking forward to the game against 3K, which is a good team. It will be an entertaining and good game. Embu always has a good atmosphere because of the large number of fans attending games here,” he said during a pre-match interview.
He added, “We must be mentally strong in this game. The players must follow our game plan. We are always a dynamic team, and we can shift our tactics accordingly.”
Warinda said the White Rhinos will miss the services of three key players, including goalkeeper Austin Prince, who is sick and forwards Rodgers Ouma and Fredrick Onyango, who are nursing injuries.
He, however, downplayed their absence, saying he has equally good replacements. Warinda hopes the team’s leading goal scorer, Vincent Nyabuto, will continue with his goal-scoring exploits. The club’s other forwards, Joshua Amunike and Laban Otieno, have scored nine and eight goals respectively. Former MOFA forward Alex Mwalimu is 3K’s leading scorer with eight goals.
Both teams are pushing for promotion to the top-tier league. MOFA are third on the log with 41 points, and 3K are fourth with 37 points.
Last weekend, MOFA narrowly beat Naivas FC 1-0 at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, while 3K were not in action in the NSL. Former Fortune Sacco coach Nicodemus Omasete took over 3K recently, replacing Francis Chege, who has since joined Mully Children’s Family FC.
