Mathare United Women’s march toward promotion is gathering pace after a dominant run in the second leg of the FKF Women’s National Super League.

The Nairobi-based side has opened a sizeable gap at the summit of the standings after winning all four of their opening matches in the second round.

The impressive streak has lifted Mathare Women to 40 points and handed them a comfortable 10-point cushion over second-placed AFC Leopardess, strengthening their credentials as serious contenders for promotion.

Head coach Ann Aluoch said the strong run reflects the team’s discipline and commitment, but cautioned that the challenge now lies in maintaining the same intensity as the season enters its decisive phase.

“It is good that we have started the second leg positively and opened a ten-point gap above the second-place team,” said Aluoch.

“The pressure usually comes with maintaining the momentum and staying at the top, but we’re focused,” she added.

Mathare Women have been among the most consistent sides in the competition this season, building their campaign on tactical discipline and squad depth.

Earlier in the campaign, the team enjoyed an unbeaten first leg, collecting nine wins and a draw from ten matches, firmly placing them at the summit of the standings.

The club’s impressive form has largely been attributed to improved squad cohesion and the integration of new signings, with the technical bench and management repeatedly stressing that promotion back to the FKF Women’s Premier League remains the ultimate objective.

With the league scheduled to take a brief break next weekend, Aluoch revealed that the team will remain active during the pause, having arranged a friendly match against a Division One side.

According to the tactician, the friendly will allow the technical bench to rotate players, evaluate squad depth and maintain match sharpness ahead of the final stretch of fixtures.

“We want to keep the players competitive even during the break. The friendly will help us assess the squad and sharpen our tactical approach before the league resumes,” she noted.

Despite the commanding lead, the coach acknowledged that the title race is far from settled, warning that rivals could still close the gap if they improve their form in the remaining fixtures.

For now, however, Mathare Women remain firmly in control of their destiny as they continue their push to finish the season at the top and secure a return to the country’s top-tier women’s league.
