The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced fresh arrangements for the election of county delegates in Migori County, scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
The exercise will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, according to a notice from the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC).
The announcement follows the postponement of the elections originally set for Friday, March 13, 2026.
In a statement issued earlier this week, NECC chairperson Emily Awitta said the delay was necessary and urged party members to remain patient as new timelines were communicated.
“Pursuant to the notice dated 9th March 2026, the National Elections Coordinating Committee wishes to notify all party members and stakeholders of the following correction: the county delegates elections for Migori County, which had been scheduled for Friday, 13th March 2026, have been postponed until further notice,” the statement read.
ODM has been carrying out grassroots elections across the country as part of ongoing efforts to restructure its party machinery ahead of future political activities.
Migori County’s delegates’ elections are part of this wider drive to consolidate leadership structures and ensure robust participation at the local level.
Eligible delegates from the party’s branches in Migori County can now submit applications for any county office positions at the county party offices.
NECC has set out the fees for aspirants depending on the position they seek. Non-executive roles require a payment of Sh1,000, while positions reserved for women, youth, disability, and other special interest representatives attract a fee of Sh 2,500.
Executive roles, excluding the chairperson, require Sh5,000, with the county chairperson’s position attracting a fee of Sh10,000.
Payments are to be made via the party’s designated Paybill number 985900.
Awitta emphasised the importance of adherence to the application process, adding that it is part of the party’s broader commitment to transparency and orderly conduct of internal elections.
ODM’s grassroots exercises are seen as a critical step in engaging members and strengthening organisational cohesion.
Party officials say the structured elections will enable more inclusive representation within county structures, particularly for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
“The party remains committed to ensuring that all eligible delegates have a fair opportunity to participate in the leadership selection process,” Awitta stated.
The March 22 elections mark a key milestone in ODM’s nationwide process to reorganise its county-level leadership. Party members in Migori County are now preparing to contest for positions and participate in shaping the party’s local agenda.
