Kenya Railways has announced a temporary traffic disruption along Moi Avenue in Mombasa to allow emergency repair works on the Mbaraki Rail Over Road Bridge.

The closure will affect the section between the Moi Avenue-Tangana Road roundabout and the Moi Avenue-Mogadishu Road roundabout.

The works are scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes to avoid delays.

Kenya Railways has provided guidance for commuters. Those travelling from KPA Gate 10 and the Docks Area are urged to use Mogadishu Road, Zanzibar Road, and Shimanzi Road.

Motorists accessing KPSA Gate 10 and the Docks Area should use Tangana Road, Mijikenda Street, Lumumba Road, and Shimanzi Road.

The railway operator also asked drivers to “observe traffic management arrangements and comply with instructions from police officers and traffic marshals on site.”

In a public notice, Kenya Railways expressed regret for the inconvenience, noting that the works are essential to “ensure the safety and reliability of railway infrastructure.”

The managing director highlighted the importance of the repairs, emphasising that they are part of ongoing measures to maintain critical transport infrastructure.

The short closure is intended to minimise disruption while allowing crews to safely carry out the emergency works.

Residents and commuters have been urged to plan ahead and expect minor delays during the morning closure.

The move comes as part of the operator’s broader effort to maintain the integrity of Mombasa’s road and rail network, ensuring that both motorists and rail users benefit from safer, more reliable transport connections.

Kenya Railways reminded road users that compliance with traffic marshals and signage is crucial to smooth traffic flow during the closure.

The public is encouraged to follow updates from Kenya Railways and local traffic authorities for any changes or additional advisories relating to Moi Avenue on March 15, 2026.

This temporary disruption is expected to last four hours, with traffic returning to normal by late morning.
