According to him, the reforms would address what he described as a trend where gold prospecting companies leave with the proceeds while local landowners remain impoverished.

Owalo further said his administration would tap into the strategic location of Busia and Malaba towns along the Northern Corridor to develop them into regional trade hubs.

The plan includes establishing border economic zones, logistics parks, warehouses, cross-border markets and agro-processing industries to boost trade and create jobs.

He also pledged to unlock the economic potential of Lake Victoria through a blue economy strategy focused on increasing fisheries production through cage farming, building cold storage facilities and fish landing sites, establishing fish processing indindustries,d promoting water transport and lake trade.

Owalo said the initiatives are aimed at driving economic growth in Western Kenya while contributing to broader national development.
