Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Rigathi Gachagua has hosted a delegation of 10 Members of the County Assembly from Kirinyaga County who have officially joined the DCP, saying the move reflects the wishes of their constituents.

In a statement he shared on his X account, Gachagua said the MCAs visited him at his Wamunyoro residence to communicate their decision to align with his party ahead of the next General Elections.

“This morning, I received a delegation of 10 members of the County Assembly of Kirinyaga who visited me at my Wamunyoro residence,” he said.

“They conveyed that they have been instructed by their voters to join the DCP party and to stand as defenders of the community, abandoning those who persecute and oppress the people of Kenya.”

The former Deputy President commended the leaders for taking a politically bold step, noting that elected officials should represent the aspirations of the people who voted for them.

“I commend the members for aligning with the wishes of their constituents as we prepare for the next general elections," Gachagua said.

He urged the new party members to remain steadfast despite any potential pressure, intimidation, or inducements that could follow their move.

“I also encourage them to remain steadfast in the face of any intimidation, inducements, or harassment that may follow after today’s bold yet politically sound decision,” he added.

Gachagua said the timing of the move is strategic as he prepares for a three-day tour of Kirinyaga County, aimed at consolidating support and engaging residents on local governance and development issues.

“This collective move by these leaders is timely, especially as I prepare for an extensive three-day tour of Kirinyaga County,” he said.

The MCAs who joined DCP include Jeremiah Makimi (Kariti Ward), Isaiah Mbogo (Kabare Ward), Jinaro Jemumo, deputy speaker (Mutithi Ward), Timothy Kariuki-Sedi (Njukini Ward), Thomas Mwangi (Mukure Ward), Fredrick Maina Karimi (Tebere Ward), Geoffrey Murimi (Kiine Ward), Peter Njiru-Weche (Wamumu Ward) and James Wambu (Kangai Ward).

Gachagua noted that their decision strengthens the party’s local presence, joining leaders such as David Mathenge (Baragwi), Kawangui (Mutira Ward) and Eric Muchina (Kerugoya Town) as defenders of the community and its interests.

The announcement underscores growing political activity in Kirinyaga County as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the next general elections, with Gachagua actively consolidating grassroots support.
