The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya will host the fourth edition of its annual Charity Golf Tournament tomorrow at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.
The event will bring together golfers, legal professionals, corporate leaders and Kenyans from different walks of life in a fundraising effort aimed at expanding access to justice for women and children.
The day-long tournament forms part of FIDA-Kenya’s “Final Push Campaign”, which seeks to raise Sh5 million to support the completion of the purchase of the FIDA-Kenya Mediation Centre in Nairobi.
The facility is expected to serve as a key hub for mediation services, legal aid, psychosocial support and virtual justice services targeting vulnerable women and girls across the country.
Organisers say the event has already attracted significant interest from Kenya’s legal and corporate circles, with more than 140 golfers registered and more expected to sign up on the day.
Among those expected on the course are senior members of the judiciary, leading lawyers and corporate executives, reflecting growing support for initiatives aimed at strengthening access to justice.
The charity tournament has steadily grown in profile since its inception. During the third edition held last year, FIDA-Kenya raised Sh4 million towards the mediation centre project. This year, the organisation hopes to surpass that figure and reach its Sh6 million target as it moves closer to fully acquiring the facility.
Organisers say the charity golf tournament will also serve as an opportunity to commemorate International Women’s Day while raising awareness about the role of mediation and legal aid in promoting access to justice for vulnerable women and girls.
This year’s tournament has received support from corporate sponsors, including Diamond Trust Bank, AAR Insurance, Kenya Wine Agencies Limited, Britam Holdings, and East African Packaging Industries Ltd.
For more than four decades, FIDA-Kenya has championed women’s rights in the country. Over that period, the organisation has provided free legal aid to more than four million women and their children, while also advocating for legal and policy reforms that promote gender equality and justice.
The proposed FIDA-Kenya Mediation Centre is part of a broader institutional sustainability plan aimed at strengthening the organisation’s ability to deliver legal services amid declining donor funding. The centre will provide a permanent space for mediation sessions, legal aid clinics and counselling services for women seeking justice on various issues.
In addition, the facility will house a temporary safe space for vulnerable women and children, a women and girls’ leadership centre, and a Virtual Justice Hub designed to expand access to legal services through a digital platform
With strong participation expected from the legal fraternity and the corporate sector, FIDA-Kenya hopes the event will not only raise the funds needed to complete the purchase of the mediation centre but also deepen partnerships that support its mission to empower women and ensure justice for all.
Once completed, the FIDA-Kenya Mediation Centre is expected to play a critical role in expanding the organisation’s services, strengthening its long-term sustainability and providing a vital resource for women and families seeking accessible and timely dispute resolution.
