The Eldoret National Polytechnic has scooped top awards in recognition of its contribution to agricultural development and technical education.
Chief principal Charles Koech received several trophies presented to the institution during the recently concluded 2026 Eldoret ASK National Show.
“We are proud of the recognition and awards given to the institution, and we will continue striving to play an even greater role in the development of our country,” he said.
Koech spoke as farmers and residents led by Wilson Kipruto, Joseph Samoei and Benjamin Leting praised the polytechnic for its performance at the show and its contribution to livestock development and modern agricultural practices.
“Eldoret National Polytechnic is a shining example because of its overall contribution to technical education and agriculture, among other sectors,” Leting said.
The five-day show held in Eldoret brought together farmers, institutions, researchers and industry stakeholders from across the region to showcase innovations, best farming practices and advancements in agriculture and livestock production.
During the exhibition, the polytechnic distinguished itself by winning Best Champion Ayrshire, Reserve Champion Ayrshire Cow and Best Boar, highlighting its excellence in livestock breeding and management.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii presented the awards to the institution officials alongside other winning exhibitors.
“The awards reflect the dedication of the institution’s farm team and its commitment to promoting practical agricultural training among students,” the governor said.
In addition to the livestock accolades, the polytechnic was also named the Best Tertiary Level Institution other than a university, recognising its strong contribution to technical and vocational education as well as its role in promoting agricultural skills development.
The governor commended participating institutions for supporting agricultural development and empowering young people with practical skills that contribute to food security and economic growth.
Koech praised the staff and students for their teamwork and dedication, which he said led to the institution’s impressive performance at the show.
“This achievement reflects the hard work and collaboration of our staff and students who continue to demonstrate excellence in agriculture and livestock production,” he said.
He said the institution would continue investing in practical training and research to strengthen its programmes.
Leting also praised Koech’s leadership, saying it had transformed the institution into a centre of excellence offering a wide range of technical skills, from driving to engineering.
Members of the institution’s leadership and technical team who have played key roles in organising the participation at the show and managing its agricultural projects, were present during the award presentation. They included TVET Fairs coordinator Danol Rotich, Research and Development coordinator Fred Agengo and farm manager Susan Seron.
