Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has long been a figure of public fascination, not just for his politics, but for his unapologetic display of wealth.
From gold-trimmed furniture to designer suits, the philanthropist has built a reputation on high-end living. His latest acquisition suggests he is now taking his "bling-bling" brand into the world of elite technology.
The First to Fold
On 10 March 2026, Sonko reportedly became the first person in East and Central Africa to own the new Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. The device is a rare piece of hardware featuring a unique tri-folding display.
It is a purchase that reinforces his status as an early adopter of luxury tech.

"I only wear one expensive brand from top to bottom—socks, underwear, belt, shirt, hat,” Sonko said.
His fashion choices often make headlines during serious events. In 2019, he appeared before the Kenya Revenue Authority in a full Versace ensemble, with the silk shirt alone costing roughly Ksh 144,000.
Even during his December 2019 arrest, he was seen in a Versace t-shirt valued at a minimum of Sh53,000.
Timepieces and Trophies
The former governor’s taste for jewelry is equally extravagant. In 2024, he was spotted wearing a Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon Titanium watch. This limited-edition timepiece is valued at over Ksh 52 million.
His generosity also carries a high price tag. While visiting the United Arab Emirates in 2019, he purchased a Versace neckpiece for his wife, Primrose, for Ksh 4.3 million.
The Golden Fleet and Cash Displays
Sonko’s transport is as flashy as his attire. He has been seen in a gold-trimmed Mercedes G-Wagon as part of a luxury convoy. By March 2026, reports showed a massive car collection linked to him, featuring Range Rovers and LX 570s.
He frequently shares videos showcasing large sums of money. In May 2023, he displayed suitcases containing Ksh 2 million in cash, which he casually dismissed as pocket change.
The Bling-Bling Origins
This flamboyant lifestyle is not a recent development. Sonko first made national headlines for his style in 2011. 
As a newly elected MP for Makadara, he was ejected from Parliament for wearing sunglasses and earrings, a moment that defined his public image for years to come.
